The Week That Ushered In a Dictatorship in the US

The far-right changes over the past week have solidified dictatorship in the US. A claim of this magnitude demands fact, so let’s begin. Most changes have been to create the white supremacist society that Trump and his minions have cherished for many years. Recall his descent on the staircase when he announced his candidacy? He began his attacks with the demonization of those of Mexican ancestry, whom he labelled criminals. A person of some balance might have thought that his base of religious fundamentalists would have bristled at this kind of bald-faced racism and hate, but those of the devout cloth can’t get to nirvana quickly enough. Israel seems to want to write their ticket for them. How glorious that final battle and war would be!

Mexicans were never enough. Now Trump’s plan for Haitians, among others, was on the agenda of high cruelty this week. The Trump administration said on Friday that it was terminating long-running deportation protections for Haitians in the United States, declaring that the violence-plagued Caribbean nation was now safe enough for the program to end by September.

The announcement, by the Department of Homeland Security, continues the administration’s campaign of revoking special protections afforded to migrants from some of the most unstable and desperate places in the world. Hundreds of thousands of other immigrants who had previously been authorized to remain in the country, including Afghans, Cubans, Nicaraguans, and Venezuelans, could face deportation (New York Times June 28, 2025).

Since Haiti’s founding, its torment at the hands of France and the US has been unending. Free Black people in their own country? The major powers couldn’t have that! Even the UN got in on the “game” spreading disease in Haiti. Many may recall Bill Clinton arranging for the removal of their former President, Jean-Bertrand Aristide, so that mayhem could rule Haiti again.

White supremacy turns on the removal of as many people who look different from most of those in the Trump administration. The New York Times (June 28, 2025) reports the detention of immigrants in the US is both “unsanitary and inhumane.” Relatives sending aid to some of those detained learned the aid has not been delivered to those detained and that yard time [“free” time in prison yards] has been denied.

The New York Times (June 27, 2025) lists the arrests of immigrants by state. The numbers are astronomical. The white supremacists in and out of the Trump administration, and the racist Trump himself, must be ecstatic! This is their promised land of sameness, wealth, and war!

The coup for Trump was the action by the far-right Supreme Court to clear the way for most of his egregious policies that have been thwarted by federal district court judges (June 28, 2025). The New York Times, cited above, paved the way for codifying into so-called law the mayhem that Trump has created.

The Trump Administration was supported by the Supreme Court in nearly all of the “emergency” cases brought before its fixed majority. When I write “fixed,” I refer to Mitch McConnell’s tailoring of the court for the ascendancy of the far right in the person of Trump. The dictatorship has been solidified.

The Trump administration through the Department of Health and Human Services is on a funding cutting spree, slashing everything that affects children’s health, to vaccines, and around again to suicide prevention. Major disease research funding is also on the chopping block. The department’s chair, the ever-scowling Robert Kennedy, Jr. an anti-health extremist, cuts and cuts until the health of a wide range of people in the US is threatened (“How to Wreck the Nation’s Health, by the Numbers,” New York Times, June 30, 2025). The attacks against children, women, the poor, and LGBT people join millions of others whose health will be directly harmed by the Trump administration and will soon be felt.
